Day 4, Yoga x. How hard can it be…… right?

Yoga x was as hard if not harder for me than PLYo. I felt like such a dumbass when I started yoga. I had been looking forward to yoga x on day 4 as a ‘rest n relax’ day. My mind is relaxed…. This was my first experience with yoga and I’m hooked for life. My body is sore and I’m shocked and amazed at the intensity of the yoga x workout.

I felt like I may have to shut off the dvd after the first twenty five minutes. I learned that the first 25 minutes are the most intense…… so stick it out. After twenty-five minutes Tony has you switch to different balancing positions. I was able to do these positions and felt confident after that point.

The warrior pose, the reverse warrior, the upward and downward dog, the twisting prayer squats, all of these new things I learned today are going to be with me forever.

Day 3: Shoulders, Arms and that bastard ‘Ab Ripper x’

Day 3 should be renamed “Thank the lord its not another PLYo day”.

Shoulders and Arms was great.  I am a male, so naturally I enjoy working my arms and shoulders.  It was a good solid work out hitting every range and process of these muscles.

I used the resistance bands again only pulling out the 15lb dumbells once.  The red resistance bans is great for arms and shoulders but I found it a tad to hard for my back.  My forms suffered.  I didn’t switch bands, just batteled through.  Next time around I’ll probably switch bands to a lighter band.  Does anyone know the difference in bands (red, green, black).  Which ones are the strongest?

Day 2: Plyo, bloody plyo

I did my plyo x exercise this morning at 9am.  It is now 7:22pm and I feel like holy hell ran me over, then backed up and parked on my ass.  If I told you my legs, but, and calfs felt “tight” I would be grossly understating the fact that my thighs want to revolt against my brain and shut down.

I work on the second floor of an office building and for the first time in five years I rode the elevator.  Not once, but twice.  I’m laughing now that I’m writing this, for some reason a week ago I was excited about this stuff.  I want to go back in time and kick my own ass.

Plyo was ruthless.  But I know that sticking it out will help me get one step closer.  Closer to my dreams, closer to my goals.

Tomorrow is Shoulders and Arms.  I’m excited.  I really enjoyed the chest and back yesterday and I like to think of myself as being pretty good with the pushups.

The recovery drink is my saving grace with this P90x program.  Without the recovery drink I would be toast.  I could have lived without the bar, I could have lived without the resistance bands…… The recovery drink is freaking essential.

Official Day 1

Last week my P90X kit came in the mail.  My wife went all out and bought the pull up bar (probably the most bad ass peice of equipment I’ve owned), the resistance bands, and the recovery drink mix.

I busted out two of the workouts last week to see if I could hang with the big boys and did okay, but decided that Monday Feb 25 2008 was going to be the Official Day1 of both diet and exercise.

The diet is tough to get used to.  Being vegan for the past two years I’ve learned to decrease my portion size (with rare binging).  So to step up and try and throw down 2400 calories a day is tough work so far, and I haven’t made it to dinner yet!

The first exercise is for the chest and back.  A lot of pushups and pull ups.  When I say a lot, I mean a shit load.  I did this work out last week so I could test out my new handy dandy pull up bar.  It worked me then, and worked me today.  I’m surprised at how much the recovery drink helped….. for a little while.  There is no better feeling in the world than the burn of a well worked muscle.

Today was also the first time I’ve done Ab Ripper X.  It ripped my abs and made me wanna cry.  I’ll get over it and soon I’ll have some bad ass abs.

Tomorrow is PLYo X.  I did this last week, but only made it through 30 minutes of the 60 minute work out.  Tomorrow I’ll push for the whole 60 min.

I have before pictures that were taken last Wednesday. I’ll post tonight.

On it’s way

My wife ordered the p90x system last night. She told me that she got all of their upsales…. nothing left unpurchased. I asked her why, she said if I’m going to do this thing I need to do it right. She knows this is my last chance to do what I love for a living.

I hope that the pull up bar and the resistance bands come the same day as the dvd. I’m so freaking excited to do this I can’t stand it.

Research

I’ve done my research and the P90x system by Tony Horton seems to be as bad ass a home work out system as it it gets. I’ve read alot of other people’s blogs and the all seem to be in like mind that the p90x workout system is the best there is.

I like to think of myself as being in pretty good shape. I enjoy working out and work out consistantly 3 to 4 times a week for the past 4 years. I have been dreaming about P90x, thinking about it all day long, and envisioning myself with a p90x body. I’m ready to get things started.

I’m ordering my system tonight and will begin the Monday after it arrives. Unlike other people who have ‘p90x blogs’ I will post before, during and after pictures that will help detail how the system progresses.
