Week 5 p90x, Legs and Back and that son of a b ab ripper x
Last night was a late night. Involved a little cardio. I was struggling with the yoga x and couldn’t get myself motivated to finish it, but wanted to keep working while I’m feeling good about life so I put in the Kenpo X. I wish everyday was Kenpo X day. It is like Christmas, for fat people.
I set my alarm for 5:50 am this morning. That gives me time to get my creatine drink down the hatch, the pull up bar in the door way and my shoes on before I get started at 6am.
When I finally rolled out of bed at ten after six I went to work. Legs and Back is a killer workout, damn those wall sits and lunges. I love the pull ups though. There are 8 sets of pull ups you do on the Legs and Back day.
The first set is reverse grip chin ups. I did 15 unassisted.
The second set is wide grip pull ups. I did 8 unassisted and 8 with one foot on a chair.
The third set is standard front grip pull ups. I did 12 unassisted.
The fourth set is standard/reverse switches. 2 front the switch and do 2 reverse grip. I only did 10.
Then repeat the whole glorious thing.
And when it’s all over I got to experience my favorite 15 minutes of the day….. Ab Ripper X. My abs are getting stronger every day and I really focused on ‘engaging’ my core today. They burned, but I found myself doing a little extra after the dvd was done just cuz I wanted to feel like a tough guy.
What a great work out to start out the day. I’m going to start including a little about the p90x diet plan. It is just as crucial to the whole deal as the workout is. It takes discipline, but it is so worth it.

What gets you through the p90x workouts?
Thanks for asking, you know who you are. Feel free to email your questions to me, post them as comments and I’d love to answer all of them.
Recovery Drink, recovery drink, and recovery drink. I would love to think that my body has found some way to regenerate and recover on its own, but the truth is the only reason I can bust my @ss everyday is the recovery drink helps me forget the pain. Is there HGH in it? I don’t know. Is there some type of steroid? I don’t think so. Maybe the secret ingredient that helps me recover so quickly is crushed up pain killers? I hope not but wouldn’t mind if it were true.
The p90x recovery drink is my best friend after Plyometrics. Today is p90x yoga x and I haven’t done the workout yet. I’m going to get home from a conference around 9pm and do yoga x immediately. At which point I’ll drink my recovery drink and watch Rob and Big on MTV. I love that show.

P90x week 5 day 31; back & biceps
I feel like week 4 is “results city” week. Every minute of every work out this week I’ve felt stronger, faster, and recovered quicker. I’m getting remotivated and pumped. Not to mention……. I’m seeing results not just feeling them.
This morning I did the back and biceps work out with the resistance bands. I used the red resistance band which I’ve learned is the easiest of the three. Next time I will use the green bands, middle strength. My pull ups improved today and so did my back fly’s. p90x baby.
And then there was ab ripper x. Wow. Last night I did Plyometrics which is an expected kick in the @ss. Plyo works me over every time. Then this morning I did the ab ripper x immediately after back and biceps. My thighs were ready to pack up and move their shit out! Ab ripper x is only fifteen minutes long, but that fifteen minutes is pure work and burn.
I’m starting to spar with some guys down at a local gym next week. My wife gave me the go ahead to fight in the UCE in salt lake. I need to work on some technique and get some sparring rounds in and I’m going to be ready to go by the end of April.

p90x week 4 recap; start of week 5
The p90x program focuses on muscle confusion. The confusion started last week when I stopped working on my legs, shoulders and arms and focused solely on my core. Holy Sh!t did it work my core. I also loved the double dose of yoga and kenpo x.
My wife calls the lines that lead from your abs to your pleasure zone “Man lines” or “Sexy lines”. I’m starting to show my “man lines”. Now I have a reason to low ride my swim trunks, I used to just gross people out. I owe this to the fifteen humiliating minutes of Ab ripper x in which I’m demasculinated and put through hell. But I finish every time……… without pushing PAUSE!!!
The start of week 5 was exciting. It is a new dvd that I got to bust out. It was really intense. I’m hoping to get the bulging viens on my biceps and I know this is the dvd to get me there. I’m really getting excited with the results I’m starting to see.
The diet change for week five is also welcome. It is the “energy boost” stage. This means I get to add one or two more blocks of carbohydrates a day. I’m excited for this. Hopefully I’ll continue to lose wieght while adding muscle.
I’m going to post pictures weekly now instead of every two weeks. I’m really showing improvement every day.

p90x week 4, Core synergystics
Core Synergystics was fun. I enjoyed the work out. The key to the workout is to focus on keeping your core muscles tight. Due to my keeping my core muscles tight I think I made the 60 minutes successful. I also managed to pass a little gas every now and again……
During p90x core synergistics’ I worked up a good sweat, but didn’t feel the burn in my core, just my shoulders. Then I sneezed about twenty minutes after I finished. Let’s say my abs haven’t recovered from my sneeze yet. They are so sore. I’ve done several yoga inspired stretches throughout the day, but just feel as if I’ve worked out a muscle for the first time.
I knew this week would be good for me, I just didn’t plan on being this sore by Tuesday.
I also posted some updated pictures.

p90x week 4. Relaxation week?
Today marks the first “rest” week. In the exercise manual there is a disclaimer at the beginning of week 4. It says week 4 is meant to relax your muscles, unless your midsection is out of shape and then it could possibly be harder than the previous 4 weeks. I’m thinking that the previous three weeks haven’t been too bad other than the days I do ab ripper x, my mid section is my week link. So this week is going to be quite the experience.
Today is Yoga X day. I’m at a conference all day in Salt Lake so I’ll be doing this late tonight.
Week 3 Recap: I’m ready to step up the arms and shoulder game. I feel like my legs are getting in better shape and that my whole body is slimming down. I would like to start adding some size to my arms and shoulders now. I’m going to do an official weigh in on Wednesday and take ‘rest’ week photos. I’ll try and post photos by Wednesday.
How is everyone else doing? By week 4 were you dead tired, or did you feel energized like I did?

Wk 3: Shoulders, Arms and Triceps and Yo-gggguuuuhhh X
First let me discuss the shoulders and arms workout I did on Wednesday. I love this work out but always feel like I should have pushed myself harder when I’m done. While I’m working I feel like I’m busting my ass, but when the dvd is done I feel like I should do it all over again just to make sure.
I think part of that mental fart that I’m having is these are the muscles I enjoy showing off. I have naturally big arms and shoulders and like to work these muscles out. They are hardening after three weeks and I feel like I’m doing what I need to to succeed in tony’s p90x program.
Yoga X (yoguh x)
So today was Yoga X day. I woke up at 5:45 this morning and was prepared for yoga. Last week I loved yoga. It was my first time and I felt like I had discovered a gold mine. Today I had trouble focusing on the workout and I think it caused my session to suffer. Yoga is supposed to be done with a clear mind and all I could think about was today’s conference at work and some stupid basketball game (damn you Jazz!)
Yoguh is my written interpretation of how I felt today while doing my yoga workout.
Tomorrow is arms and back and ab ripper x. I’m so excited to have my ass handed to me by a dvd again. If I wasn’t already seeing/feeling results I would be so discouraged right now!

Week 2 recap
I missed two days last week, Friday and Saturday. That is Yoga X and Kenpo X. I stretched on Sunday and tried to get a good burn in, but my sister got married on friday and that shot my friday/saturday workouts.
I got a hot start on week 3 really burning the chest and shoulders workout. I increased the amount of push ups I’m doing and can really feel it in my pecks and shoulders. I love doing push ups cuz the vein in my bicep is starting to harden up.
Today is another round of Plyometrics and I’m pumped.
(update)
I did plyo metrics Tuesday night. I’m starting to enjoy the work out. The plyometric dvd can be compared to my best friend from high school. He is such a pain in the ass, but after all we’ve been through he’s still my homey.

Update P90X day 5, 6, 7 and 8
I had a crazy weekend, but managed to get all my workouts in. Day five was legs and back. I was reading in the p90x fitness manual that Tony had to adjust this workout because people felt that p90x focused too heavily on the legs. My leg muscles feel like they’re trying to break out of the skin! Oh yeah, I got to enjoy another fifteen minutes of ab ripper x, the most discouraging fifteen minutes of my day by far. My abs need lots of work.
Day 6, Kenpo X. What a cardio work out. Being a fighter myself I particularly enjoyed this day. What a hard workout good on your lungs and joints. I feel I will double this routine up next week. This is a serious calorie burner and one that I enjoy doing.
Day 7, rest or stretch, I chose to rest. I got to bless my baby boy in Church today and we had family over. Still followed the diet!
End of Week 1 recap: I stuck the diet very strictly. I feel the muscles all over my body still recovering. The recovery drink is saving my life daily. I went from 180lbs to 177lbs this week and feel I’ve added more musle to my arms, core and legs. I have been using creatine this week and didn’t expect to lose actual pounds. I’m very impressed that I lost fat and added muscle after just one week.
